The Ballad of Chris & Susan

I used GarageBand on the iPad2 to create this little number. I was glad to have the iPad, too. One of the great things about the iPad is its immediate power. It puts a bit of creative power at your finger tips right this second! On a lark, I plugged in my acoustic to a warm old tube amp, and put down a couple tracks on a song I wrote a couple summers back.

It was easy, fast, and you can hear that the recording quality was fairly pleasing. Even after I recorded two acoustic guitar tracks, two harp track (thank Jebus I had my tuner app), and two vocals, I could still hear that something was missing. Well, "when in doubt," I have learned, "look to nature." I stepped outside with my IPad to take a look around. Though it was a mild December afternoon, I saw nothing of immediate interest. No cats to sneak upon. No woodpeckers drumming. But, then what's more peaceful than a wind chime , I thought. Easy and quick, I had a short sample of chime bells. Inside, I added the samples of a small bell, sea glass falling, and mason jars gently rapped with a wooden spoon.

I'm so over work on the real. My last day was Friday. Goodbye to AmeriCorps! It was a pleasure serving you, America - eliminating poverty and the like - but I must be goin' now. Well I'm on my way. I know this is a long post, but if you break it up into two or three sections, it's a pretty managable read.

Boy, I must like blogging late at night because here it is midnight and I'm on the computer typing away. Keeping my roommates awake; the rucus of nimble little fingers on a particularly clicky keyboard. But, it's not particularly the night time blogging keeping me awake. I've just been having such a good time in the late night. Last night, for example, I made a cape from an old wool army blanket. It's a pretty neat thing. It's semicircle in shape with another smaller semicircle cut out for the neck. I made the neckhole too big, alas. But, I believe it's beautiful all the same. And, a mighty fine cape. I'll put a hood on that thing, then I'll be ready for the woods. Got my poncho (see Lost and Found ). Got my backpack (see Oh, I've been in a place ... ). Iceland Day 4 - "Puffin' Up" or "Ditch the Van!"

We camped under the waterfalls in part because it was close to the ferry to Vestmannaeyjar. We planned a quick out-and-back trip. The main point of the ride was to bird watch. Adam brought his zoom lens camera. In all we stayed out there only long enough to walk a few blocks. Then, we returned to the mainland and parted ways with plans to meet again in the morrow. On the way back to Reykjavík, we returned to the hot river. First we bought bread and coffee at a roadside bakery. Then, ate lunch at a park in the city as rain drizzled. Then, parked down the road from the trail head and started the long, sulfurous hike into the hills, with flies swarming is in the beginning. A reddish German Sheppard walked in front of us, and it’s owner (who called to the dog in German) said, “He likes you.” Finally we reached the river and lay down in a pool created by a stone wall.
